Most of the Android smartphones are now coming with a notch display which has significantly increased the size of the screen. A notch display has a cut-out at the top of the screen where the front camera, speakers and various sensors are placed.
Manufacturers are trying to make the phone screen size as big as possible by decreasing the borders around the screen. The old smartphones used to have 16:9 aspect ratio screen, which is now increased to 18:9 in the new notch display smartphones.
By default, some of the Android apps don't work in full screen mode on notch display. For example, if you play a video on YouTube or MX Player app, then it will not use the notch area of the screen. Same as in the case of some Android games.
